Two Nortniks is a mouthful.
But two brains is better than one.
Hello, we’re Emily and Joe Nortnik, certifiable cinephiles and budding screenwriters. Welcome to our humble web abode.
First, let’s get the name out of the way. Nortnik. Yes, it’s odd but the shoe fits. According to family lore, our Slovenian forefather arrived in America with the surname Nartnik but immigration changed it to Nortnik. Quite the improvement, no? We’d love to time travel and choose Norsese but that ship has sailed. Alas, the only practical thing to remember is, unlike Scorsese, there’s no “c” in Nortnik. (Try typing it out a few times and feel that urge to add a “c”—the action is the juice.)
In addition to our dad-daughter dynamic, we’re writing partners. What exactly does this mean? Fair question, we’re making it up as we go. Sometimes we write together and sometimes we write independently. We provide each other editorial and emotional support—the latter probably being what writers need most—and we brainstorm concepts like we’re running out of time. Ultimately, we just enjoy collaborating and it makes us both better writers.
Do we have the “goods”? Time will tell. We’re doing our very best to divorce process from result. What we do have is passion and a lot of fun. For us, the action (the writing) is the juice. And most importantly, we’re trying to offer the movies the one thing we truly have to offer: as Craig Mazin says, that which is unique to us.
The action is the juice.

As far back as I can remember, movies have been my conduit to the world. They help me laugh, cry, and muddle through life. They help me process the enigmatic. I call this cimilarity. More about Joe
